Another absolutely brilliant day in the mountains!
Kicking away from the main group with about 25km to go, Kreuziger began his long slog, slowly picking off the riders in front of him. Catching the final two men from the days breakaway he was all alone on the final climb and held off a marauding pack made up of the big guns on GC.
Stage 19 Last 3km
Ryder Hesjedal pulled off a fantastic performance by finishing second, putting his fellow rivals under pressure and placing himself into the perfect position to take overall victory on Sunday. He took 13 seconds out of Joaquim Rodriguez and now sits just 17 seconds behind him. He also extended his lead over other favourites, Ivan Basso and Michele Scarponi.
If the big Canadian can get through tomorrow and over the mighty Stelvio intact you’d have to bet money on him for the overall?! With a time trial set to close the race on Sunday, the other contenders must be starting to worry!
Stage 20 Caldes-Passo dello Stelvio 218 km
It’s all shaping up to be a terrific ding dong battle till the end!
