What an absolute corker!!! And that was just the weather.

Add to that the stunning scenery and the inevitable sifting of the pack on a stage packed with BIG mountains, today was a fantastic spectacle!

Eventually won by Joaquim Rodriguez dedicating the win to his friend Xavier Tondo who tragically died exactly a year ago today.

It was great to see the Maglia Rosa win such an epic stage. There was no real change to the GC today, apart from Roman Kreuziger and Paolo Tiralongo who just didn’t have the legs to stay with the other contenders. The real changes will come in the next few days when we’ll see how the men who pushed themselves to the limit today recover?

Stage 17 Last 20km

Tomorrows stage should be a sight for sore legs though…

Stage 18 San Vito di Cadore-Vedelago 139 km

One for the World Champ? we’ll see if he’s got any zip left in those legs after the last few days!

And finally, a late Happy Birthday to Guillaume Michiels, 77 today.

Soigneur extraodinaire to The Boss. Michiels was also confidant, personal trainer, drinking partner, chauffeur, bodyguard, etc; the list goes on…

Still working today, he was massaging legs and looking out for riders at the Berlin Six Day race this year!

Happy Birthday!
