Mark Cavendish, 27 today.

With eleven wins in his first professional season, equalling the record held by Alessandro Petacchi, he has won a total 20 Tour de France stages putting him joint 6th on the all-time list with Nicolas Frantz and 10th on the all-time list of Grand Tour stage winners with 33 victories.

Also the winner of the 2009 edition of the Milan–San Remo classic and the points classification in both the Vuelta a España (2010) and the Tour de France (2011) and by the looks of things will soon be adding the Maglia Rosso of the Giro to his collection!

Love him or hate him, and there are definitely plenty of people in both camps!. You can’t deny that (1) – He is, without doubt, the fastest sprinter in the world and thoroughly deserves those Rainbow bands and (2) – it makes it way more interesting to have big characters in the sport whether you scream their names in encouragement or spit on the ground with disgust!

Happy Birthday!
